Champagne Virginie T Brut
In the case of the present batch of Virgine T Brut (85% being of the 2010 vintage and the balance from reserve wine), the wine was bottled in July 2011 to undergo the secondary fermentation and was not disgorged until September 2019! An extended period of more than 8 years!! (The legal requirement is just a minimum 15 months).
The end result is a generosity of layered fruit; tiny but persistent bubbles; and, a rounded, sumptuous mouth-feel that is practically creamy. The dosage is 6 g/l, the lowest for Brut (which can be a maximum 12 g/l).
Virginie T Brut is composed of 67% Pinot Noir and 23% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Meunier, with the majority of the fruit coming from 11 Grand and Premier Cru villages.
Geyerhof Wild Wux Kremstal Gruner Veltliner 2019
Bright straw yellow. Pears, citrus, apricot, pineapples and a whiff of butter. The unoaked, fruity, tenacious palate has a round freshness. Medium-plus-ish bodied and very balanced. A touch reductive, it’s a good idea to decant the wine about 30 minutes.
Geyerhof Ried Johannisberg Kremstal Riesling 2019
Bright light gold. Very aromatic, including peach, apricot, pineapple, and roses. The palate is just as full and overwhelming. Rich, intense, dry, with a very long finish. Voluptuous!
Domaine Maurice Tremblay Chablis 2018
Chardonnay loaded with intense, ripe lemony, pineappley, Golden Delicious appley/limestone minerally fruit. Long, lingering, persistent finish. Completely unoaked, this creamy textured white Burgundy is Chardonnay at its purest and most pristine. Magnificent!
Domaine Grande Bellane Cotes du Rhone Villages Valreas 2019
Organically grown by current 5th generation, Domaine Grande Bellane only produces wine from its own vineyards. Violets, floral and deep dark cherry fruit. Rich tannins. Intense fruitiness and delicious freshness. Sensational! Grenache (50%) Syrah (50%). Winery advises to decant (go for 90 to 120 minutes).
Proyecto Garnachas La Garnacha Salvaje 2018
Floral and berry/cherry fruit with vitality and freshness and soft tannins – with a little grip and a light tobacco aspect – on the finish. Elegantly medium-bodied. Fruit, structure, and freshness in wonderful harmony. Manually harvested, Salvaje – 100% Garnacha – was aged in new French oak barrels for 5 months. A multi-award winner, the 2013 and 2015 Salvaje won Gold at MONOVINO, and the 2018 vintage Gold at Wine Sub 30 Contest in Spain.
