沙爹被认为起源于印度尼西亚的爪哇，写成“Sate”。

在马来西亚和泰国南部（包括普吉岛）的马来人社区，他们“Sate”的拼写是相同的。

印尼沙爹配以黑色甜酱油“kecap manis”。

在新加坡，马来西亚和泰国，我们喜欢沙爹蘸花生酱。

“Satay”是“Sate”的英语拼写。

我食了60多年的沙爹，当中包括位于海边Beach Road的“Satay Club”（已停业）。 那时只有羊肉沙爹，没有牛肉和鸡肉沙爹。 这些都是后期的创造的。 后来华人又加入了猪肉沙爹。

我最喜欢的仍然是羊肉沙爹。 虽然现在还可以享用到，但可惜的是，大多数的羊肉中间没有一整块脂肪（介于顶部和下部的瘦肉之间）。

新加坡福建人用他们的方言巧妙地将沙爹翻译成 “三块”，读起来像沙爹。

我最喜欢以雪利酒和波特酒与沙爹搭配。

可惜在新加坡，很少地方有售西班牙葡萄酒。 庆幸波特酒比较容易买到，又和沙爹搭配出色。

白波特酒适合搭配鸡肉（以及内脏）沙爹。

红宝石波特酒（Fine Ruby ）和茶色波特酒（Tawny）与羊肉和牛肉沙爹相得益彰。
