(CG1) Clandestine Grenache 2015

This is the first vintage of Clandestine Grenache from 93-year old vines. Producer Vinaceous Wines is a highest 5-star rated winery of Australia by James Halliday in his Companion 2021 book. The vines are unirrigated and – like in Chateauneuf-du-Pape – stand on their own as in a “gobelet”, otherwise known in Australia as “bush vines”. The ancient 93-year old Grenache vineyard sits 150 metres above sea level in the small hilly township of Clarendon, South Australia, which some consider the greatest place in the world for Grenache outside the Rhone Valley in France. Hand harvested, after fermentation, the juice was aged in large, old French barrels. Ruby with a light tawny rim. Fragrant, including violets and red/blue/purple fruit. Silky tannins with a gentle grip on the finish. Freshness and fruitiness. Simply delicious! Enjoy and savour in a fat, round Burgundy glass. Pour a generous portion!
